Ethiopian Airlines Flight 302 took off from Addis Ababa Bole International Airport in Ethiopia on March 10, 2019. The aircraft was a Boeing 737 Max. Tragically, the flight crashed just six minutes after takeoff, resulting in the loss of all 149 passengers on board. Many of these individuals were humanitarians dedicated to making the world a better place.

Jamie R. Lebovitz and his team were honored to represent several passengers, all of whom had ties to Canada. Following this crash (the second involving a Boeing 737 Max in five months), the aircraft model was grounded worldwide. The investigation into both crashes was complex, requiring years of litigation, the review of millions of documents, and numerous depositions of engineers and other personnel from Boeing. Further, Mr. Lebovitz and his colleagues were supported by a team of highly regarded experts in the areas of flight path reconstruction, piloting, airplane design, quality control, physiology, and aerodynamics.

Mr. Lebovitz was appointed by a Federal Judge from Chicago, Illinois as a member of the Plaintiff’s Steering Committee, a panel of lawyers responsible for overseeing the litigation for all cases arising from the ET 302 crash. Ultimately, cases were resolved through confidential settlements that provided the passengers’ families full compensatory damages, accountability on the part of Boeing, and justice.
